Frederick (“Fred”) William Voss, age 91, joined his Lord and Savior on February 2, 2026, at home in Jacksonville, Florida. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday March 7th at 2:00 PM at Tamaya Grand Living, 3270 Tamaya Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32246, where he resided with his wife Antoinette (“Toni”) from 2022 to 2025.
Fred was born in 1934 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania Frederick & Mary Voss. He grew up in New York City, helping their father with building superintendent chores, engaging in hijinks with his younger brother, John (“Jack”), and otherwise enjoying a free-range childhood as a city kid. Fred attended New York University, graduating first with a degree in mathematics and commission in the United States Air Force, and later with a Master of Business Administration.
Fred and Toni were married in 1957. Fred started work as an entry level programmer with IBM until called up by the U.S. Air Force. He entered flight school and completed single-seat jet fighter training in 1957. Courtesy of the USAF, the young couple lived in Moultrie, Georgia; Laredo, Texas; Cheyenne, Wyoming; and Fairbanks, Alaska, as Alaska became the 49th state. Returning to NY, Fred went on to have a rewarding 40+ year career at IBM in programming and software design, becoming a liaison between IBM programmers and international customers that took him around the world. He and Toni raised their daughters in Wappingers Falls, NY and were members of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Fishkill, NY for nearly 50 years before moving to Florida.
Fred will be remembered for his sharp mind, generous spirit, sense of humor, and million-dollar smile. For a time, he continued flying, performing advanced and competitive acrobatics at local air shows. He was a lifelong skier, which he enjoyed with his daughters and friends. Other hobbies included swimming, golf, tennis, and painting. Throughout his life, Fred relished chess games in person and remotely with his grandson. Hosting dinner gatherings for family, friends, and neighbors was a source of joy, as were card nights with family and friends. Late in life he learned bridge and enjoyed this new pastime with friends at Tamaya in Jacksonville
We remember our dear father with deep gratitude and love and treasure the time we had with him. We are also grateful for those who cared for him so faithfully. Fred is survived by his wife, Toni Voss, his daughters Christine (Adam Copp) and Laura (Craig Berry), his grandson George Berry, his brother Jack Voss (Trang), and his niece and nephew and their families.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Foundation of Community Hospice & Palliative Care, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257, or give online at thefoundationcares.org/give.
