Rosa Mae “Rose” Davis (Ashbrook), 98, passed away on September 6, 2026, in Jacksonville, Florida.

Born on February 15, 1928, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Walter and Hattie (Bagley) Ashbrook, Rose moved to Miami at the age of 18. Florida became the place she considered home, and she had resided in Jacksonville since 2023.

Rose married her beloved husband, William “Bill” Davis Jr. in Miami, Florida in 1969. She loved to garden and maintained a collection of more than 200 rose and azalea bushes at her former home in Lake City. She also loved cooking for her family and was known for having the best cornbread, greens, and gravy recipes anyone had ever tasted. Over nearly a century of life, Rose witnessed generations grow and leaves behind a family spanning five generations.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; two sisters; her husband, William “Bill” Davis Jr., of Miami, Florida; her son, Dannie Butler, of Florence, South Carolina; and her son-in-law, Paul Fox, of Plantation, Florida.

Rose is survived by her sister, Delores (Tony) Harris; her children, Sharon Williamson, Donna Links, Verlen Fox, and Ralph (Fran) Butler; her grandchildren, William, Wyatt, Jonathan, Peter, Wayne, Michael, Samantha, Nathan, Curtis, David, and Amanda; 21 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by her family.

A private interment will be held at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida, where Rose will be reunited with her beloved husband, Bill. In lieu of flowers at her service, the family asks that floral tributes be sent to Alto Duval Station, where Rose lived for the past three years, at 1035 Starratt Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218. This will allow her friends who are unable to attend the service to enjoy the flowers in her memory.
