Listen to Obituary

Jeanne Helen Wagner (89) died peacefully in her sleep on August 21, 2026, in Atlantic Beach, Florida. She was born on December 17, 1936, in Moline, Illinois, to Gale and Helen Abrahamson.

Jeanne is predeceased by her parents; her husband of 54 years and the love of her life, Herbert Wagner; her sister, Carlene Gustafson; her daughter, Cynthia Steinway; and her first great-grandchild, David Brett Burris. She is survived by her sister, Eileen Doyle (Bill); her brother, Fred Abrahamson; her daughters, Debi Wagner, Janet Stewart (Scott), and Jill Fuson (Jim); her grandchildren, Brett (Svetlana), Jordan (Nathan), Joseph, Benjamin (Anna), Robert (Kara), and Kelsey; and her great-grandchildren, Fuller, Claire, Maximilian, Elizabeth, Caleb, Alexander, Reid, Catherine, and William.

Jeanne grew up in Chicago, where she met Herb on a blind date when she was 15; they were engaged when she was 16 and married when she was 17. They moved to Florida early in their marriage and lived happily in Seminole, where Jeanne was a homemaker and later worked as a driver license examiner for ten years. Together, she and Herb raised their four daughters, shared a love for their church family, and held a deep faith in Jesus.

In everything she did, Jeanne loved to sing: from the church choir loft, while sewing clothes for her grandchildren, while doing chores around the house, or when walking the aisles of the grocery store. Remembered by many as an elegant and godly woman, she had a heart for missions and served many years as a leader of women’s Bible studies. She loved being a grandmother, often baking cookies for and playing games with her grandchildren.

In 2020, Jeanne moved to Jacksonville, Florida, to be near her daughter Debi, eventually spending her last years at Fleet Landing Nancy House.

The funeral service will be held at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell on Thursday, August 27, at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to OneMoreChild.org.
