Helene Wendell passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Helene was born on May 28, 1948, in Beacon, New York to Duane and Helen Palmatier. She was a graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes High School and Florida State College at Jacksonville.

Helene had a true passion for teaching and dedicated 29 years to Palms Preschool, where she became a beloved and familiar presence in the Beaches community. She especially cherished the opportunity to see her former students long after they had left her classroom. Her family was always amazed by her ability to recognize her students after so many years – and equally touched that they remembered and recognized her. Those encounters were a testament to the lasting impression Helene made on so many young lives.

Family was at the heart of Helene’s life. She treasured spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and bonus grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing with her beloved dog, trips to Disney World, watching football, and following NASCAR.

Helene is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Bill Wendell; her son Billy and his wife, Kimberly Magley Wendell; her daughter Kimberly Wendell, her grandchildren Patrick Wendell, Allison Magley, Sophie Magley, and Lilly Magley; her brother Thomas Palmatier and many nieces and nephews.

A private celebration of life with family and friends will be held.

Helene will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family, friends, and former students, and all whose lives she touched.
