Larry Edward Smith

Larry Edward Smith, 77, of Atlantic Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on the evening of April 6, 2026, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Larry was born on June 28, 1948, in Waco, Texas, to Dean Smith and Faye Montgomery. He is survived by his loving wife, Frances Smith, née Ardizzone; his children, Brian Smith (Sundown) and Lisa Jones; and his four grandchildren, Andrea Masters, Alison Herbst (Max), Patrick Smith, and Andrew Smith.

He is also survived by his seven stepchildren: Eric Griffin (Desiree); Marie Gallien (Jason, Griffin, Charlotte); Carre Griffin (Kevin, Joseph, Emilee); Chris Griffin; Scott Griffin (Jacqueline); Harold Gentry (Brittany, Maverick); and Hannah Ruiz (Jaime). Larry is further survived by his siblings, Judy Adams, Martha Prescher, and Kenny Smith, as well as his beloved cat, Julian.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Barbara Cannon and Faye McCahill; and his brother, Hollis Smith.

He retired in 2014 after 33 dedicated years with Southwest Airlines, where he served as an Operations Agent and was known as a friend to all. Larry had a deep love for the Texas Longhorns, enjoyed traveling, and time spent at the beach.

He will be remembered for his resilience, warmth, and devotion to his family.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 10, 2026 in St. Paul's Catholic Church of Jacksonville Beach with Monsignor Houle as Celebrant.
