Coulliette

Obituary

Jean (Jane) Shankland MGinty Coulliette was born July 1, 1949 and died June 6, 2026 at her home surrounded by her husband and children after a long illness. Jean was born in Glasgow, Scotland and grew up there as part of a large and loving family. She met and fell in love with a young American sailor from Jacksonville, Florida--a Yank named Wes Coulliette--and they wed in April 1968.

While she didn't carry rank, she held one of the most meaningful jobs in the service--Navy wife. Jean and Wes were blessed with two sons and a daughter and raised their family around the world during Wes's naval career. After his retirement from the USN, they moved back to his home, Jacksonville, Florida, where she took a position with the State of Florida as Chief Deputy Registrar of Vital Statistics in Duval County until her retirement in 2014.

Jean loved her family deeply and took great pride in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was quick to laugh and generous with friends and family. But she was also fierce. If you needed someone in your corner, you prayed it was her because she'd go to war for you.

Although she lived in the U.S. much of her adult life, she remained a proud Scottish woman and kept strong ties to her native Scotland, visiting her family there as often as she could and happily hosting them here. Thousands of miles separated her birthplace from the home she made here but her heart was big enough to hold love for both places.

Jean was predeceased by her parents, Hugh and Marion; and bonus mother, Bunty; her beloved aunts, Emily and Mary; her brother, John; sisters-in-law, Senga, Ellen, and Gwen; and her precious granddaughter, Margaret.

She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Wes Coulliette; her son, Jerry Coulliette and wife, Nancy; son, John Coulliette and wife, Amy; daughter, Nicole Remo and husband Radley; grandchildren: Wesley Coulliette, Tyler Coulliette, Andrew Coulliette, Malcolm Remo, and Maisie Remo; great grandchildren, Talia Coulliette and Revan Coulliette; her sister, Maureen Brown (Gordon); brothers, Henry McGinty, Peter McGinty, Robert McGinty, Andrew McGinty (Susan), Malcolm McGinty (Anne-Marie); brother-in-law, Gary Coulliette (Cynthia); sister-in-law, Bonnie Stevens (Oscar); and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends who will miss her dearly.

The Memorial Service for Jean will be appropriately on her day of birth, July 1, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Quinn Shalz Funeral Home (Livestream Link). She will be laid to rest in Jacksonville National Cemetery following her service at 1:30 p.m.
