Mary Lee (Wilson) Golitz, 81, of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, died peacefully on August 23, 2019 after a yearlong brave and noble fight against melanoma cancer. Mary Lee was born on May 27th, 1938, in Findlay, OH, predeceased by her parents Hellen E. and David W. Wilson. Survivors include Robert T. Golitz, her loving husband of 53 years; two daughters, Karen E. Mabee and son-in-law William R. Mabee II of Ontario, OH; Patricia G. Lyall and son-in-law Robert J. Lyall of McLean, VA; a brother David R. Wilson of Yarmouth, ME; five grandchildren: Kaitlin Mabee, Megan Mabee Colin Mabee, Olivia Lyall and Walker Lyall.
After receiving her BS degree in Education from Ohio University in 1960 she served as an elementary school teacher for seven years in Fairborn, OH, prior to becoming a lifelong dedicated fulltime homemaker, embracing the duties of being a loyal wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and ultimate matriarch and role model, all while establishing a reputation as a wonderful cook. What’s noteworthy is that over a 53-year span she was simultaneously dealing with the challenges, excitements and emotions of moving her family from Fairborn, OH, to Bay Village, OH, to Hagerstown, MD, to York, PA, to Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, to Columbia, SC, to Wilmington DE, to Wayne, PA, back to Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, and finally to Vicar’s Landing Retirement Community, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. Throughout these 10+ home closings, she was always doing what was necessary to make these moves happen and always putting the best interests of her family first.
In her spare time, Mary Lee enjoyed playing golf, tennis, bridge, Mahjong and she was also a voracious reader and an active book club member.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 28th at Christ Episcopal Church in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32082, followed by a 12:15 p.m. reception at Marsh Landing Country Club.
