Marjorie Higgins

June 8, 1935 — August 13, 2019

Marjorie Grace Higgins (née Rowland) passed away on August 13, 2019 at age 84 in the company of her husband, Robert Higgins, and daughters, Nan Higgins Magrath and Susan Higgins. Her last days were peaceful.

Marge was born on June 8, 1935, the only child of Elwyn and Marjorie Rowland (née Van Leuven). Born and raised in West Orange, NJ, she attended Centenary College for Women. She met Robert Harold Higgins at the Jersey Shore and they happily married in West Orange on November 23, 1957. Marge and Bob became longtime residents of Summit, NJ until moving to Florida in the 1980s. Marge had many accomplishments and successes in her life, but her hallmarks were her grace, gentleness and beauty.  Those who met her always responded to the kindness of her heart.

In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by her son-in-law Matthew Magrath, who was a son to her, grandsons Robert (RJ) and David Magrath, cousin Janice Pierguidi, and her many friends who have enriched her life.

A short service to honor Marge will be held on Saturday, September 28 at 11 a.m. at Palms Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville Beach, FL where her cremated remains are to be interred.  Given Marge adored all animals (except snakes!), in lieu of flowers for her service, please donate to the humane society or animal shelter of your choice.  It will be a short, small service. For those who want to attend but cannot, please simply remember her with the love she always held for you.
