KOENIG Donald Erven, 87, a United States Air Force veteran who served in the Korean War non-combat, passed away February 13, 2021 from complications Covid. Don was born July 1, 1933 in Louisville, KY to the late Erven A. Koenig and Dorothy N. Koenig. Don is preceded by the death of his wife of 51 years, Mary James Keen Koenig, February 3, 2011. Don was a devout Episcopalian all his life and was an active member at St. Paul’s by-the Sea Episcopal Church in Jacksonville Beach, Florida as Acolyte, Chalice Minister, Lay Reader, Usher, Verger and Vestry member and The Brotherhood of St. Andrew as well as completed a four year Education for Ministry (EFM) program to help the faithful encounter the breadth and depth of the Christian tradition and bring it into conversation with their experiences of the world as they study, worship and engage in theological reflection.
A St. Andrew Brotherhood said, “I loved his stories of growing up in the Louisville, KY Cathedral, from acolyte, youth group and choir. He was the first Episcopalian that I met that literally grew up in the church.”
Don graduated from Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, FL with a degree in Business. Don worked 32 years at The Home Depot Pro Specialty Trades in Customer Service headquarted in Jacksonville, FL. Don was so loved at his work by many of his co-workers and leaders. He was involved in getting a flag for Armistice Day at his workplace.
Don is survived by his daughters, Laura Winton McMurray (Jerry) and Lisa Keen Koenig; grandson Andrew L. McMurray (Elaine), great granddaughter (Ashton); sister (Delores B. Kolter); and several other loving family members.
A small intimate memorial service due to Covid will take place at St. Paul’s by-the Sea Episcopal Church outside at the Memorial Gardens.
