William "Cal" Callan Gilbert

William Callan (Cal) Gilbert leaves many friends, a great salesman with Equifax (in fact the best) passed away peacefully August 22, 2022 at the age of 99+ .  He was born on January 23, 1923 to John D and Hattie Gilbert in Greenville, SC. Graduating from the University of Georgia (a faithful “Dawg”) after serving as a B24 tail gunner during World War II.

     He married Norma Jean Reed in January 1948.  Over 70 years of marital bliss set a great example of a loving commitment to his spouse and children.  A member of the Baptist Church, he was also active in the Civitan Club for many years.  He and Norma Jean had two sons, Fred Callan and William Alan Gilbert.

     He is survived by brother Warren and JoAnne Gilbert, son Bill and Connie Gilbert, grandson Fred and Laura Gilbert (great grand children Emily and Nathan), grandson Andy and Lea Gilbert (great grand children Callan, Asher, and Maya) and daughter in law Keri Gilbert. A great father/grandfather/and great-grand father “at the beach” who loved making friends with everyone he met, never spared a complement, or forgot a birthday.

   He will be moving on to the next phase of rest until the resurrection into a glorified body prepared for him by his Savior.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, September 19, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Quinn-Shalz Funeral Home.
