William T. “Bill” Driscoll III, 73, of Tampa, FL, passed away due to complications of heart failure on October 15, 2025, in Jacksonville, FL. Bill was born on February 5, 1952, in Norfolk VA, to William T. Driscoll, Jr. and Joan Vivian Coley Driscoll.
Bill attended the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, in the early 1970s and played Division 1 football, lettering for 3 years on the offensive line. Upon graduation, he served active duty in the U.S. Navy stationed in Norfolk, VA, including two Mediterranean tours as a Lieutenant Junior Grade on a Landing Ship Tank (LST) and as an instructor at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. Bill retired from active duty in 1982 and joined the Naval Reserve in Baltimore MD. Bill attended the University of Baltimore School of Law, graduating in 1985.
Bill worked for the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office after returning to Tampa in 1986. He continued his service in the Naval Reserve in Tampa, serving in Operation Desert Storm in 1991. Bill established his own law practice in 1992, which he ran with dedication and integrity until his passing.
A lifelong Tampa resident, Bill was known for his larger-than-life personality and strong South Tampa ties. He was an avid football fan who loved cheering for Georgia Tech (where his daughters attended college), Florida State University, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
He is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth Scott (Trey) Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, Diana Benton (Tom) Atlanta, GA, his six grandchildren Cade, Mary, and Lilly Scott, Alexandra, Katherine, and Luke Benton, his sister, Lisa Driscoll Bradenton FL, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister (Deborah Driscoll Smith), and sister (Diane Driscoll Buell). Bill is also survived by his former wife Virginia “Ginger” Lane, of Jacksonville Beach, FL.
