Virginia McCuen

June 3, 1925 — August 14, 2017

Virginia Bragg McCuen died peacefully at home, in Ponte Vedra Beach, on Monday, August 14, 2017, after a lengthy illness.

Virginia was born in Pelham, Georgia, June 3, 1925, and grew up in Jacksonville. She met Joseph McCuen at the Naval Air Station. They were married in 1951 and moved to Annapolis, Maryland, where he was stationed at the Naval Academy. During their courtship in Jacksonville, they enjoyed spending time together at the beach, especially dancing at the Jacksonville Beach Pier. Eventually they realized their dream of building a home in Ponte Vedra Beach circa 1970. Virginia was a woman of many talents and interests, including singing, dancing, painting, sewing, decorating, gardening, and entertaining, just to name a few. And she excelled at all of them! She was also a career woman, and held several positions for many years at the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club, including Public Relations and Guest Services Director, and Manager of the Surf Club. Even with all her accomplishments and achievements, she always remained humble.

Virginia was beautiful, kind, generous, smart, classy, sometimes mischievous, funny, and full of life! She embodied the grace of the South.

Virginia is survived by daughter, Cara McCuen; niece, Carol Bragg Watermolen (Gary); nephews, Harold Wesley Bragg (Fran), and Steve Bragg; and many loving cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph McCuen; parents, Leah Byrd and Wesley Bragg; brother, Harold Bragg (Winnie); and sister Doris Bragg Lundblom (Herold).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in memory of Virginia at 2pm on Saturday, August 26th, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church.

Memorial donations may be made to Community Hospice & Palliative Care www.communityhospice.com or charity of your choice.
