'OGERS VICTORIA M. ROGERS Victoria M. Rogers, of Atlantic Beach, Florida, widow of Rear Admiral W. Haley Rogers (1923-2005) passed away peacefully on July 21, 2014. Mrs. Rogers, a first-generation American, was born Victoria Mieczkowski, November 18, 1927, on a farm in Westport, Massachusetts. She married then Ensign W. Haley Rogers at the Naval Academy in 1948. During the three decades of Haley Roger's Navy career, Vicki was dedicated to maintaining a loving household while being a part of the social support structure in each Navy community where they were stationed. From 1972-1974 when Admiral Rogers was the Commander of US Naval Forces in Japan, Mrs. Rogers became immersed in Japanese culture and arts - an interest that stayed with her for the rest of her life. Upon their return from Japan, Haley was named Commandant of the 11th Naval District in San Diego. In San Diego, Mrs. Rogers contributed her time and insights to civic organizations. She and Admiral Rogers chaired several galas for The Mingei International Museum of Art, and they also contributed a work to the museum's collection. Additionally, from 1978 until 2005, Mrs. Rogers supported the Women's Auxiliary of the Salvation Army Door of Hope, hosting several award celebrations earning the organization's highest honor as A Woman of Distinction. Admiral & Mrs. Rogers moved to Fleet Landing in 2004. She maintained her Navy connections and interest in world events and joined the World Affairs Council of Jacksonville. Mrs. Rogers also supported the arts in Jacksonville as a member of the Ponce de Leon Society at The Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens, FOCUS Cummer and the Jacksonville Symphony. Although never owning or operating a computer, she became deeply interested in the internet, its benefits as well as its risks. Mrs. Rogers sponsored a presentation on cyber security by John C. Inglis, Deputy Director and senior civilian leader of the National Security Agency at a World Affairs Council lecture in September 2012. In consultation with Vice Admiral Michael H Miller, Superintendent of the US Naval Academy, Mrs. Rogers decided to endow a lecture Series in perpetuity at the US Naval Academy: The Mrs. Victoria M. and RADM W Haley Rogers '47 Fall Cyber Lecture Program. In a recent interview she said, "Admiral Miller gave me the vision of what cyberspace is, what its benefits are but also the perils not only to our personal security but to global security. I did this to honor Haley and to do something important for my country." Mrs. Rogers is survived by her nephews and nieces: John Thomasian, Marty and Dick Jones, Matt and Susan Mackowski, Dan Mackowski, and Joanie Mackowski.
