Sterling "Buzz" Leroy Hassler, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and beloved figure in his community, passed away unexpectedly on August 10, 2025, at his Fleet Landing home in Atlantic Beach, Florida. Born on March 22, 1940, in Reading, Pennsylvania, to Bertram Hassler and Catharine Keller, Buzz lived a life marked by dedication, kindness, and a fervent desire to be of service to others.
Buzz's career was as diverse and expansive as his interests. He took on various roles throughout his life, from working as a landscaper and driving a school bus to holding the position of Vice President for an abrasives company. One of his proudest roles was his service with the Florida Highway Patrol Auxiliary Division, where he found great joy in contributing to public safety and serving his community.
A lifelong learner, Buzz graduated with a Master’s in Management Science from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Worcester, Massachusetts, and honed his leadership skills with certification from Harvard's Program for Management Development. His commitment to personal and professional growth exemplified his character as a dedicated employee and executive, respected by all who had the pleasure of working alongside him.
Known for his warmth and generosity, Buzz was a kind and caring individual, always ready to lend a helping hand. His sense of humor and lightheartedness endeared him to many. Buzz was affectionately known as “Mr. Fixit,” reflecting his remarkable skills as a woodworker and furniture and car restorer. An avid bowler, he enjoyed the camaraderie of the game and the community it fostered.
Buzz's proudest accomplishments were undoubtedly his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Karen Hassler; son, Scott (Gail) Hassler; daughter, Britt (Craig) Adams. He was a devoted grandfather to Abigail, Andrew, Arica, and Dru, all of whom adored him deeply. His sister, Dawn Noll, also remains to cherish his memory, as do many others who were fortunate enough to know him.
His legacy continues through his family, friends, and all who were touched by his kindness and unwavering spirit. As we remember Buzz, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and a profound impact on everyone he encountered.
