S. Paul Wooten III, 65, of Neptune Beach, FL passed away peacefully on Thursday November 5, 2020 in Jacksonville, FL.
Paul was born to Paul and Ann McCoy Wooten on May 6, 1955 in Key West, FL where Paul, Sr. was stationed with the USN. Paul spent his childhood in the Southside/San Jose area of Jacksonville. He graduated from Assumption Catholic grade school where he made lifelong friends. The family moved to Augusta, Georgia in 1972 where Paul graduated from Hephzibah High School class of 1973. He attended Lord Fairfax Community College in Warrenton, VA where his uncle, Bill McCoy, was the founding president. He served in the United States Air Force as an X-ray technician. After his service he worked in mental health counseling at Charter Hospital. He spent the last two decades of his life in the seafood industry delivering seafood to the chefs of Northeast Florida, spending 7 years at Safe Harbor Seafood and 10 years at Inland Seafood and was well loved by his customers.
Paul loved to laugh, he was an avid reader and student of US and World History, he loved traveling, hiking, the ocean, music, concerts, and the Florida Gators! He was the oldest of 9 children, a beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He bravely battled leukemia for almost 5 years and will be missed by his loved ones.
Paul is survived by his 8 siblings, Becky Jarboe (Jim) of Jacksonville, Greg Wooten, of Jacksonville, Emily Murphy (Shaun) of Jacksonville Beach, Josh Wooten of Inverness, FL, Laura Lynch (Mike) of Jacksonville Beach, Chris Wooten (Deanna) of Neptune Beach, Jenny Calkins (Brett) of Jacksonville, and Ann Wooten, of New Orleans; 24 nieces and nephews; 14 grand nieces and nephews; and many cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Paul and Ann Wooten of Neptune Beach, FL.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 13, 2020 in St. Paul’s Catholic Church Jacksonville Beach.
