Sarita May Sparrow died February 17, 2020 at the golden age of 82. She spent her years sharing her love of floral arranging, interior design, gardening and entertaining with loving friends and family from North Carolina to Florida.
Born in Leaksville, North Carolina in 1938, she attended East Carolina University and married her high school sweetheart Frankie May. Frank graduated Wake Forest University where he was a member of the Sigma Epsilon fraternity and Sarita was Sig Ep Sweetheart. They lived in Winston-Salem where they raised both their children, Elizabeth May Peck and George Franklin (Chip) May, Jr. Sarita was an avid member of the Junior Women’s Club and The Garden Club Counsel of Winston-Salem, having served as President of both organizations.
She moved to Ponte Vedra Beach in 1998 to be near her children, her first cousin and childhood compatriot, Kenneth Campbell, and his entire family. She joined Christ Episcopal Church and quickly became an active member in that community. Sarita’s love for life brought her close to the hearts of many in Ponte Vedra Beach.
Sarita recently married the love of her life, David Sparrow. Together they planned to be parishioners of Christ, keep family and friends close to their hearts and live the next chapters of their lives to the fullest. They had just begun their journey. Those who knew Sarita, say she lived a full life but passed too soon. She had many more dances left to dance.
She is survived by her husband David Sparrow; two children, Elizabeth May and Frank Jr. “Chip” May (wife Holly); and her granddaughter Lauren Elizabeth Peck. She will be missed by all who were touched by her life.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11am Thursday, February 27th at Christ Episcopal Church in Ponte Vedra Beach with a reception for family and friends to follow.
In honor of Sarita and in lieu of flowers, please send donations to Christ Episcopal Church, 400 San Juan Dr., Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32082.
