Roland E. Swanson

Roland E. "Shorty" Swanson, 94, of North Canton, Ohio, passed away Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Sunrise Senior Living in Jacksonville, FL. He was the son of Linus and Mary Swanson also of North Canton, Ohio.

He married Janice E. Heck on May 12, 1972, in Annapolis, MD. Shorty was employed with CSX Transportation from 1945 until his retirement on March 31, 1997, he began as a Telegraph Operator on the B&O in Akron, Ohio thru the years he was mostly in Transportation management with his finial position as Manager EDI services in Jacksonville, FL. 

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Janice and one son, Bryan of Jacksonville. he has one sister, Joanne Marie Swanson of North Canton and a niece Nancy Brady Swanson still living. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Germane Swanson in 2010; and a nephew, Scott Swanson in 2000. A  brief service was held at Quinn Shalz Funeral Home with a Catholic priest from St. Paul's Catholic Church, Jacksonville Beach, FL. His ashes will be spread in the Atlantic Ocean.
