Robert Coleman Walker (Bob) was in his home with his wife and son by his side, as he gently passed away on Friday morning, March 27, 2026, at the age of 89. He was born in Mobile, Alabama to Edward and Venita Walker. After the loss of his mother, at age one, he was raised by his grandmother in Mobile. Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gerri Howell Walker, their son, Adam Walker and grandsons, Fischer and Judson Walker. Also, by Keith Brown and the Brown Family and George Howell and Family.

Bob and Gerri met in Atlanta when each had moved there as a teacher. They married and lived there 54 years. After retiring, they moved to Jacksonville Beach in 2017 to be near their son and to continue spending special time with their grandsons. They have enjoyed their home as it sits on a small lake across from a Bird Sanctuary with constant entertainment from many Shore Birds. Bob always had a dog as a pet, and Jax has been his companion for several years.

Bob was a natural student and teacher. He earned a B.A. at Stetson, further enriching his studies in summer programs at LSU and the University of Alabama. He continued his education by earning a M.Ed. from the University of Georgia and an Ed.D. from Auburn University. His professional life began as a teacher in Foley, Alabama and then, a teacher and counselor with the Atlanta Public School System. He spent some time as Head of the Pupil Personnel Services in Rockdale County, Georgia. Most of his career was with DeKalb College (Georgia State University System) as a professor and then as a Department Head of the Social Studies Division at the campus in Dunwoody, Georgia.

However, Bob’s greatest interest and pleasure was collecting and studying antiques. This quickly led to an antique business in 1971, The Walkers Antiques. He was happy with this endeavor, even when it meant hard work. In the early years of the antique business, Bob earned a good reputation in the field of American Cut Glass and Tiffany Glass. Over time, the interest expanded to other decorative arts, paintings and furniture. The Walkers exhibited at Antique Shows in many US cities, including Atlanta and Jacksonville.

A private service for the family will be at the Memorial Garden at St. Paul’s By The Sea, Jacksonville Beach, FL.
