Rickey “Rick” Eugene Fahrney, 68, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2026, after being diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer’s disease in 2022.
Rick was born on June 29, 1957, in Hagerstown, Maryland, to Arthur Paul Fahrney Jr. and Pauline V. Fahrney. He graduated from North Hagerstown High School in 1975 and went on to graduate from the University of Maryland in 1980. While at Maryland, Rick built lifelong friendships and as a member of Sigma Pi fraternity, a brotherhood that remained meaningful to him throughout his life.
Rick was married for 44 years to his devoted wife, Virginia “Ginger” Riley Fahrney, of St. Augustine, Florida. Together, they built a loving family and a life filled with dedication, friendship, and many cherished memories.
He is survived by his wife, Ginger; his mother, Pauline V. Fahrney; his children, Paul Hunter Fahrney of Baldwin, Maryland, and his wife Lauren; Andrew Shriver Fahrney of Ponte Vedra, Florida, and his wife Audrey; and Julia Fahrney Folmsbee of Atlanta, Georgia, and her husband Eric. He was a proud grandfather to Sutton, Briar, Abigail, Adalyn, Glenn, and James, who brought great joy to his life. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Paul Fahrney Jr.
Rick spent his entire career in the South Florida corrugated box industry, retiring in 2022 from Packaging Corporation of America as a sales manager. His career reflected one of his greatest gifts: building relationships. Rick had a natural ability to connect with people, make them feel comfortable, and turn conversations into friendships.
Outside of work, Rick and Ginger made their home in Royal Palm Beach, Florida, for 42 years, where they raised their family and built their own piece of paradise. It was there that his love for gardening became a meaningful part of the home they created together. Rick incorporated a pool, koi ponds, and waterfalls into his backyard oasis where he spent most of his free time. He had a particular interest in rare tropical varieties, including fruits, orchids, palms, bromeliads, and other exotic plants. Rick was also a proud and devoted family man who supported his children in every way. He was active in and coached youth soccer for his sons and many other young men, and he was a constant supporter of his daughter’s passion for ballet and gymnastics.
Rick will be remembered for his outgoing personality, his love of storytelling, and his ability to befriend anyone around him. He brought warmth, humor, and energy into the lives of those who knew him.
Services will be scheduled at a later date in Hagerstown, Maryland.
