Richard Mann

September 23, 1933 — April 6, 2020

Richard Gibbons Mann, 86, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2020 in his home in Ponte Vedra Beach with his wife by his side. Richard was born in New York City, NY, and raised in Nassau County.

Following service as an air crewman in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War, he earned a degree in electrical engineering at Indiana Technical University. He was subsequently employed by Tung-Sol Electric in Newark and served in executive positions at ITT Europe and at Thorn EMI.

Mr. Mann resided in New Jersey and Pennsylvania before moving to Chatham Borough in 1974. He served seven years on the Borough Board of Adjustment. He was also an active member of the Chatham Fish and Game Protective Association and served as President in 1981. He was a member of the VC-12/VAW-12 Squadron Alumni Association.

Richard founded Amherst Scientific Corporation in 1988. The company develops ancillary cooling products for analytical instruments used in material analysis, medical and astronomic research. The firm is now located in Landing, NJ. Mr. Mann retired in 2002 and served in a consulting role until moving to Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, in 2009.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Ann; daughter, Karen, of McKinney, TX; son, Thomas, daughter-in-law, Lori and grandson, Austin, of Kissimmee, FL; and brother, Peter, who resides in South Carolina.

Mr. Mann’s interment will be in Jacksonville National Cemetery with a private family service.
