Rear Admiral Richard P. Cueroni, U. S. Coast Guard (Retired) passed away on October 13, 2025, at the age of 95.

A graduate of the U. S. Coast Guard Academy and Distinguished Graduate of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, he spent 36 years on active duties both at sea and ashore. In his Coast Guard career, he served on seven Coast Guard cutters and commanded four of them including (at the time) the largest U.S polar icebreaker. His passion for the sea was surpassed only by his intense love for his family.

Shore assignments included tours in Alaska and Haiti. As Commander of the Seventh Coast Guard District in Miami, Florida, he led the drug interdiction efforts in the Caribbean working directly for then Vice President George H.W. Bush. His final assignment was Superintendent of the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT. His singular emphasis throughout his career was his desire, and aim, to treat fairly all with whom he worked.

Together with Beth, his deceased and loving wife of almost 67 years, they raised five wonderful children, Robin (Mrs. Walter Hanson), Nancy Cueroni, Donna Cueroni, Cheryl (Mrs. Carl Comasco) and Richard Jr. He always stated proudly that he was truly blessed to have Beth and the children who contributed immeasurably to his successes and to the happiness he enjoyed throughout his life. Their demonstrated love, affection and personal sacrifices allowed him to pursue coveted assignments, at sea and ashore, without ever worrying about their well-being or abilities to overcome adversity.

In addition to the children, he leaves six grandchildren and spouses, Emily (Hanson) Deal and Matt; LCDR David Hanson, USN; Andrew Hanson and fiancée Stephanie; CDR Carl J. Comasco Jr, USNR and Victoria; Vincent Comasco and Dr. Lauren Cameron Comasco; Michael Comasco and Kristen; and nine great grandchildren.

Catholic service for he and Beth will be celebrated at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy next spring. They will be inurned at the Academy Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Foundation of Community Hospice & Palliative Care, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257, or give online at thefoundationcares.org/give
