The Very Reverend Philip Gerald “Sergius” Clark, 85, passed away on November 22, 2023. He was born March 19, 1938 to Marjorie Early Donham in Rutherfordton, NC. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia H. Clark, and sisters, Barbara Harrill and Wilma Sparks. He is survived by his daughter, M. H. Clark (Peter Mellen), his son, Jeremy H. Clark, and his sister, Ona Kennedy.

Fr. Clark was a graduate of Warren Wilson College, Berea College, and the General Theological Seminary. He served as a signal corpsman in the U.S. Army, a counselor at the Central State Hospital in Milledgeville (GA), and a chaplain at Ascension St. Vincent’s Riverside. Prior to joining the Orthodox Church in 2000, he was an Episcopalian priest in Spruce Pine (NC), Riviera Beach (FL), and Savannah (GA). Most recently, Fr. Sergius served as an Archpriest at St. Justin Martyr Orthodox Church.

A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 29th at 6:00 p.m. with the Celebration of Funeral of a Priest at 7:00 p.m. at St. Justin Martyr Orthodox Church, 12460 Old St. Augustine Road, Jacksonville, FL 32258. The Liturgy for the Departed will be celebrated on Thursday, November 30th at 10:00 a.m. with interment immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Justin’s or the American Heart Association.
