Penelope J. Sandarg, 75, passed away unexpectedly on July 5, 2021. She was born on September 11,1945, in Hartford, Connecticut to Frederick and Gloria Judd.
Penny was an intelligent, resourceful woman who made many personal sacrifices raising a child as a single mother. She was extremely supportive of her daughter's education and swimming and spent many weekends traveling the state of Florida for her swim meets enthusiastically cheering on the sidelines. Penny instilled excellent values, such as the importance of higher education and a strong work ethic.
Professionally, Penny was a CPA and was actively involved in both Polk and Duval County chapters of the Institute of Management Accountants. During her career, she worked at several firms as either controller or accounting manager as well as Vice President of her father's company, Southeast Florida Engineering. Penny often said her most interesting job was working as a bookkeeper for Universal Limited Art Editions, a fine art print publisher that published works for pop art icons, such as Jasper Johns, James Rosenquist and Robert Rauschenberg, all of whom she met.
Aside from her professional life, Penny's passion was cat rescue. She devoted her time and energy to several cat rescue organizations in Tampa. She was a weekend warrior at local PetSmarts finding wonderful, loving homes for over 700 cats. Penny also loved the water and was one of the first female surfers on the east coast in the 1960s.
Penny is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Elizabeth Judd. She is survived by her daughter, Mitchelle Holland (Lee); sister, Judith Ann Judd; niece, Hannah Kittell (Makoto); numerous cousins and beloved friends.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life in honor of Penny at 4:00p.m., Saturday, July 31, 2021 at her daughter Mitchelle Holland's residence, 2340 Oceanforest Drive West, Atlantic Beach, FL 32233.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to Mayport Cats, PO Box 11093 Jacksonville, FL 32239 would have made Penny very happy.
