Thompson, Peggy Peggy J. Lewis Thompson, previously from the greater Detroit, MI area, Hilton Head, SC, Tryon, NC, and Mt. Dora, FL passed away in Jacksonville, FL, December 2, 2015. She was born to the late James E. and Jean Miller Lewis on August 16, 1926. She retired from Michigan Consolidated Gas Company where her innovations included but were not limited to creating the first, now traditional, Michigan Gas Company's Christmas Cookbook and the very first cooking program on television in the Detroit area. Peggy was always a champion for women as evidenced by her creation of a program "Freedom for Women" which worked with educating disadvantaged women teaching nutrition and budgeting. As a result of this program, she was awarded the prestigious Golden Rose Award from Seventeen Magazine. As Director of Home Services, for Michigan Consolidated Gas Company, being elected as Chairwoman of the American Gas Association, plus numerous other appointments, she broke through the glass ceiling for all women in business. She was a creative, ingenious business woman, avid golfer and talented artist. She is survived by her cousin, Bill (Mary Lou) Miller and their 5 children: Nieces, Kathy Lewis and Cecily Kenny, Nephew: James Lewis: Step Children, Sue Ann (Don) Colwell, Rodney (Marisol) Thompson and 7 step Grandchildren.
