Paul T. Walker, age 90, devoted and beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, died at his home in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida on March 12.
Born on April 13, 1935, in New Haven, CT to Rose (Smith) and Joseph M. Walker, he was the middle of three sons. He graduated from Notre Dame High School in West Haven in 1953, then attended the University of Notre Dame, graduating with a bachelor's degree in finance in 1957. He began his career as an assistant treasurer at The Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City, embarking on an over thirty-year tenure working under the direction of chairman David Rockefeller and culminating in his appointment as Executive Vice President and Chief Credit Officer in 1985. After leaving Chase, Paul served as a Trustee of the Drexel Liquidating Trust (1992–1996), administering the disbursement of assets in the bankruptcy of Drexel Burnham Lambert Group Inc. In 1996, he co-founded Walker, Truesdell, Roth & Associates, a firm dedicated to providing comprehensive senior management, advisory, and administrative services to distressed or bankrupt companies. He was subsequently appointed by President Bill Clinton to spearhead a fund promoting business enterprise in Slovakia following that nation's transition to democracy. He served on the boards of directors of reorganized companies including Integrated Resources and Lomas Financial and advised both debtors and creditors in troubled situations.
Throughout his career and retirement, Paul generously dedicated his time to teaching and mentoring younger members of his field and contributed to several charities supporting veterans and children including Wounded Warrior Project, The Tunnel to Towers Foundation and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Two passions defined his leisure—gardening, first discovered when planting a World War II victory garden as a child, and golf, which traced back to his early days as a young caddie in New Haven. He was a long-standing member of Waccabuc Country Club and Sawgrass Country Club. A loyal fan of all Notre Dame sports, especially football, Paul faithfully read the Blue & Gold football preview before every season. He had a lifelong sweet tooth and would wake up early on weekends to bring fresh donuts to his Sawgrass coffee group, where according to him, they would gather "to solve the world's problems."
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Susan; his children, Felicia (Jeff) Saferstein, Brian (Marla) Walker, and Elizabeth (Nirmal) Joshi; his younger brother, Monsignor David Walker; and seven grandchildren: Allison, Dale, and Chaz Saferstein, Silas and Calvin Walker, and Shefali and Shaan Joshi.
Paul was predeceased by his parents and his elder brother, Philip S. Walker.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 10:00 am at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 545 A1A North Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. Interment will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of Quinn Shalz Funeral Home, 3600 Third Street South, Jacksonville Beach, FL.
