Patrick Coburn

September 3, 1950 — July 3, 2019

Patrick Raymond Coburn, 68, of Tallahassee, FL passed away from unexpected complications from a successful double lung transplant at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL on the morning of July 3, 2019.

Patrick was born in Bennington, VT on September 3, 1950 and was raised in Dutchess County, NY.  At age 17 he enlisted into the United States Marine Corps.  As a Field Radio Operator, he deployed to Vietnam with 1st Battalion, 9th Marines, infamously known as "The Walking Dead".  He later served with H&S Co, 2nd MTBn, 2nd Marine Division at Camp Lejeune, NC.  Patrick later returned from combat with injuries but didn’t let that stop him from loving life. In fact, he rarely spoke about his military accomplishments nor service due to his humble nature.  After his service in the military, Patrick returned to Dutchess County and had a successful career in the medical field at Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center and Taconic (DDSO) for 37 years.  During this time, he met his enduring spouse, Angeline Peloso-Coburn. Following retirement, they relocated to Florida, where he loved the beaches and time spent with his dogs.

Throughout his life, Patrick crossed many difficult obstacles, and was admired by his family and friends for his resiliency.  No matter the battle, he found a way to regain strength and get back to the things in life he so enjoyed -- like fishing and traveling with his wife.  We remember his dedication to service with the U.S. Marine Corps, the Mental Health profession, and his family.  We will miss his handsome smile and delightful sense of humor.  The man known as Pat, Hunny, Dad, Little-Little, Grumpy, Grandpa, will be forever missed, loved and never forgotten.

Patrick is survived by his devoted wife Angeline Peloso-Coburn; loving children, Patrick Coburn (Cassie), Jennie Clark, Paula Clark; beloved grandchildren Kaylie and ReAnna; dear siblings Colleen Shepard, Mike Coburn (Yvonne), Kevin Coburn (Linda); and many loving family members and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents Frederick and Mary Jane “Irene” and his brother-in-law, Donald Shepard.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 PM, Saturday, August 17, 2019 at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 5444, 3422 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY.  Interment will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, October 11, 2019 in the Tallahassee National Cemetery at 5015 Apalachee Parkway, Tallahassee, FL.

The family would like to thank the Mayo Clinic lung transplant team, The Gabriel House of Care and the wonderful medical teams and staff at both locations for their compassion to their field. You treated us as family over the past 13 months, and we are forever grateful.

Patrick was surrounded by his family while listening to Christian music and some of his favorite Beatles songs when he received his next set of orders to report to his Lord.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gabriel House of Care, In Memory of Patrick R. Coburn, 4599 Worrall Way, Jacksonville, FL 32224.

Please leave thoughts and remembrances for the family under the Tribute tab.
