Michael Stewart

March 5, 1984 — April 19, 2022

Michael Joseph Stewart, “Stewy” to many who knew him, 38, passed away April 19, 2022.  He was born March 5, 1984, in Denver, CO.  He was a resident of the beaches since 1999.

Mike graduated from Fletcher High School, class of 2002 and went on to study Horticulture at Valencia Community College.  He worked in landscaping and landscape design most of his life.

Stewy was a proud member of the ARCVLSC (now the VLSC) in Jacksonville Beach, recruited from the Summer 2000 class. He loved his time serving in the Corps and the camaraderie he enjoyed with his fellow Corpsmen.

Mike loved the planet Earth and all its creatures, great and small.  He was an avid animal lover and took in many strays over the years, providing a loving home to them.  He found great satisfaction in creating beautiful container and bedding gardens to “Plant the Planet” as he liked to say.

Mike respected and treasured the ocean and loved to surf. He also enjoyed all types of music, and a guitar was always nearby.

Stew had an amazing sense of humor and an infectious smile. As a former teacher remarked, “When Mikey smiles, he lights up the room.”  That’s how we remember him.

Mike is survived by his loving mother and stepfather, Liz Stewart and Jeff Berry.  He was predeceased by his father, Anthony Ross “Tony” Stewart.  He was loved and will be missed greatly by his aunt and uncle, Suzy and Ron Tanler and his cousins and friends near and far.

A celebration of life for Michael will be held at a future date, to be announced.  To honor his life, please consider donating to the Nature Conservancy, Save our Oceans or to any local animal shelter/foster organization. Better yet, “Plant the Planet” with a native tree or shrub to honor our Stew.
