Sean McGowan passed away peacefully enjoying a morning cup of coffee with his wife in his home on January 15, 2026, after an 8-year battle with Multiple Myeloma. By the grace of God his immediate family was able to say goodbye.

A loving and devoted husband and father of four, Sean was a true Renaissance man who seemed to have done it all. He was a proud Marine, a dancer, a comedian, a boat captain, a trucking operations manager, a skilled butcher, a Florida Gator, a motorcyclist, the king of poker night, a surfer, a diver, a fisherman, a hunter, a chef extraordinaire, and a masterful storyteller—just to name a few. Yet of all the titles he carried, his favorite role was being his family’s anchor, providing constant support, stability, and unwavering love.

He was our family’s hero, our saving grace, sent from Heaven above. Strong, tough, and brave, Sean smiled through the pain and never once complained. He faced life with quiet courage and an enduring sense of humor. He taught us how to make people laugh, even in the hardest moments. He taught us when things got tough to stand back up, dust ourselves off, and try again. Most importantly, he taught us how to love one another deeply, fully, and without hesitation. His legacy lives on in the laughter he shared, the lessons he passed down, and the love that will forever bind our family together.

Sean is survived by his father, Michael G. McGowan; his sister, Wendy K. McGowan; his devoted wife, Cari Rhoads McGowan; and his four children, Carli Marcussen (Chris), Michael (Gillian), Savannah, and Tristen. He is also survived by his in-laws, Don and Robyn Rhoads; sisters-in-law Maggie Venn (Charles), Ellen Gardner (Mitch), and Lauren Rhoads; and a slew of nieces and nephews who all adored him: Meaghan, Bre, Richard, Logan, Jordan, Luke, Jaylen, Joanne, Jace, Mae, Davis, Drew, Daxton, and Donnie; and Molly. He is further survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and great-nieces and great-nephews. Sean was loved and cherished by his entire family.

We find hope in knowing that he is now spending eternity with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, welcomed by his mother, Madeline, and his loving aunts, Celeste Mercer and Yvonne McCrone. We will see you again one day, Nacho Pappy.

A Celebration of Life and dessert reception will be held on January 31 at 11 AM at Redeemer Church, 190 S. Roscoe Blvd, Ponte Vedra Beach Florida 32082. All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Sean to Bit of Faith Ranch, an organization that offers adaptive horseback riding, recreation, and respite for individuals impacted by autism and was established with the help of his family, where he also served as a volunteer consultant.
