Michael Scott Gressett, also known as “Big Country”, age 66, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 6, 2021. Scott’s family called him by his middle name “Scott”, and friends called him Michael or “Big Country”. Scott attended Fletcher High School in Jacksonville Beach, FL. He worked in various construction trades, including masonry. Most recently he worked at A.A. Pittman & Sons Concrete Co., Inc. He was active in the local community and supported the efforts of the Jacksonville Beach Lions Club in the 1980’s. Most recently he was on the Board of Directors of Alcoholic Service Center at 4th Street in Jacksonville, FL. “Big Country” was a friend and mentor to countless people who needed his help and who were fortunate to have known him.
Scott had an extensive network of friends that he called “Framily”. Scott was a uniquely genuine and authentic person who endeared people with his charm, wit and friendly demeanor. Scott loved boating and fishing. His friends and family will always remember fondly the fun that would be had with every fishing trip.
Scott is preceded in death by his parents Wilma Phillips and Otho “Jim” C. Gressett, as well as his sister Joy and his wife Kathy. He is survived by numerous stepbrothers, stepsisters, nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at Quinn-Shalz Family Funeral Home on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at 1:00 PM followed by a reception.
