Lawrence Goldsmith

October 5, 2013 — October 13, 2013

Lawrence Edward (Larry) Goldsmith died on Oct. 5, 2013, at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville Beach surrounded by his family. Born in Meriden, Conn., in 1962, he attended Gainesville schools. Larry was the chef/owner of three Jacksonville restaurants including Max's Place and worked in Gainesville at the East End Eatery. He was an amateur horticulturist, loved good food and the ocean. He traveled lightly on this earth, once showing up for a family reunion with nothing but a surfboard and a roll of toilet paper. He was a generous and kind man who was known to give his last dollar to someone in need. He left us all far too soon.
He is survived by his son, Max, of St. Augustine; mother and stepfather, Abby Goldsmith and Vince Lipsio of Gainesville; longtime companion, Jackie Payne of Jacksonville Beach; brother, David Goldsmith (Lorrie) of Raleigh, N.C.; sisters, Deborah Goldsmith (Mike Zolkiewicz) of Columbia, Tenn., Jennifer Goldsmith (Brad Knabel) of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Emma Jane Caplan Heggestad (Arne) of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two aunts, Priscilla Caplan of Archer, Fla., and Ellen Goldsmith of Wisconsin; several cousins; three nephews and a niece.
A private celebration of his life will be held at his parents' house on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, from 4 to 6 p.m.
A memorial service will be held this summer at his family's annual reunion. In lieu of flowers, donations benefiting the homeless or to Angelwood (angelwoodjax.com) would have pleased him greatly.
