Khammay Thepsouvanh, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on January 5, 2026, surrounded by his cherished family. He was born on January 1, 1935, in Muang Khong, Laos, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and sacrifice.

His formative years included an education at a military academy in Laos, which forged the path for his 20-year service in the Laos Royal Armed Forces beginning in 1955. As a Small Arms Inspector and later as a military instructor at Chi Naymoh Military, Khammay dedicated himself to his country with honor. His military expertise was further sharpened through studies in France and at the Aberdeen Proving Ground in the United States, marking him as a thoughtful and smart individual who inspired others.

Khammay's journey took a remarkable turn after the communist takeover in Laos in 1975. Demonstrating unwavering strength and commitment to his family's well-being, he played a heroic role in their escape to Thailand. This courageous act led them to live in a refugee camp until they could start anew in Arkansas. He held a steadfast belief in providing his children with opportunities to thrive, reflecting the depth of his caring and selfless nature.

Beyond his military career, Khammay was well known for his vibrant personality. He was committed and punctual yet fun-loving and humorous, endearing himself to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Khammay's proudest accomplishments were not those of accolades but rather those of his family. He sacrificed much throughout his life to ensure their success and happiness. In his earlier years, he was a talented pool shark and an avid hunter, sharing his military training with his children to teach them the art of hunting and shooting with unmatched accuracy. In his later years, he found joy in fishing, spending peaceful days casting lines in waters he loved.

He is survived by his loving spouse, Phouvieng Vongmala; Children; Vilay Vanh (Kham) Lovan, Viengkhong (Phetnoy) Thepsouvanh, Viengkhone (Darrell) Ivie, Phetsomphone (Carlos) Valotha, Nikone Thepsouvanh, Khamla (Abbie) Thepsouvanh, Davavanh (David) Hendricks, Darivone (Bruce) Blaisdell, Voradet Thepsouvanh, Netlavanh (Patrick) Wheeless, and his sister; Khamkhong Sayabanha, along with 23 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, not to mention numerous nieces and nephews.

Khammay joins in eternal rest his late wife, Khampevang Thepsouvanh; his daughters; Thongsavanh Inthavong, and Viengmone Thepsouvanh; and his brother, Dr. Kee Thepsouvanh.

His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, a testament to a life lived well and a spirit that touched many.

Visitation will be held at Quinn Shalz Funeral Home & Cremation Centre in Jacksonville Beach, FL, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2026, followed by a Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2026.
