Julian Sauer

d. August 6, 2018

Julian Kurt Sauer, age 65, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2018. He was born in Cape Town, South Africa. The son of the late Henni and Max Sauer, Julian met his wife Merle in Cape Town and they married in 1976.  The couple moved to the United States in 1979, and they continued to travel the world together throughout their 42 years of marriage.

Julian and Merle landed in Baltimore, then moved to Atlanta, Georgia where they lived for 25 years. There, they raised their two children, Melanie and Michael and Julian enjoyed a successful career as an accountant. In 2004, he and Merle moved to Amelia Island, Florida and he joined the accounting firm, Courson and Stam. He was an extraordinary professional with a brilliant mind and gentle nature. He served on many non-profit boards, where his knowledge was greatly appreciated.

An avid supporter of the performing arts, Julian had a love of theater and music but travel was his greatest passion. He explored the globe throughout his life. At home on Amelia Island, he enjoyed yoga, bike riding and walking the beach with his wife Merle. He was a dedicated father and grandfather who valued family greatly. His family and friends knew him as a man of immense kindness, honesty and wit. A person of integrity and compassion, Julian will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Julian is survived by his loving wife, Merle; his daughter, Melanie, and son-in-law, Robert Hammer; his son Michael Sauer and his daughter-in-law, Nikki; his granddaughter, Sophie Hammer; and friends across the world.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 12, 2018 at the residence of Melanie and Robert Hammer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to The Coalition for the Homeless of Nassau County and Community Hospice & Palliative Care.
