STORMS John Martin Storms, 78, of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL died December 13, 2015. He was born April 3, 1937 in Buffalo, NY where he grew up. He graduated from Syracuse University in 1959 and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity and the Senior Men's Honorary Tau Theta Upsilon. Following his graduation from Officer Candidate School he served five years of active duty in the U.S. Navy, fifteen years in the Naval Reserve and retired as a Lieutenant Commander. His career in banking and financial services included serving as Vice President of Buffalo Savings Bank and CitiBank in South Florida. He retired as a Certified Financial Planner with American Express in Jacksonville, FL. John and his wife Joy have been residents of Sawgrass Country Club for the last 21 years where John served as Chairman of the Finance Committee and Treasurer of the Sawgrass Association Board of Directors. John loved traveling with his wife and spending time with his family. A devoted fan of the Buffalo Bills, he also took great pleasure in entertaining children with magic tricks and his model railroad. A highlight of his life in the Jacksonville area was the opportunity to be a guest conductor at a pops concert of the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra in May 2008. John is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joy; daughter, Susan of New York City; son, John of Lake Barrington, IL; daughter-in-law, Abigail; granddaughters, Scout (8) and Georgia (5). Plans for a celebration of his life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra.
