Jim R. Roiz, a long-time resident of the Beaches community, passed away on June 14, 2025. He was born on April 5, 1947, in Norfolk, Virginia, to Albert F. Roiz and Anne Daniel Roiz.
Jim graduated high school in Jacksonville before attending North Florida Junior College in Madison, Florida—where he met the love of his life, Christine Ellis. His academic journey continued at Florida State University, Jacksonville University, and ultimately the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In 1975, he earned his law degree from the Birmingham School of Law and began a successful private practice. Later, in the late 1970s, he returned to Jacksonville to serve as a corporate attorney for Ryder Truck Lines.
Jim was a marvel to all who knew him—a man of sharp intellect, charm, and warmth. How can one describe Jim? He was an entertainer, a storyteller, a brilliant thinker, and to Christine, the most nearly perfect man. Always the center of attention and never short on words, Jim was a beloved husband and father, a loyal friend, a dealmaker, and a poker legend. Known in gaming circles as “Chip Wreck,” Jim played life with a winning hand—and he played it with heart, humor, and skill.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, E. Christine Roiz; his sons, Kevin A. Roiz and Jeff Roiz; his cherished granddaughter, Sarah K. Roiz; along with extended family and many dear friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Quinn Shalz Funeral Home in Jacksonville Beach.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim's memory to the Parkinson’s Foundation, www.parkinson.org.
