Jerry Lawrence
Garlitz
August 28, 1941 – April 30, 2026
Jerry Lawrence Garlitz, 84, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at his daughter’s home in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
Born on August 28, 1941, he was the son of the late Melvin and Kathleen Mae (Minnick) Garlitz. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Clara Arzona Keefer; his brother, Donald Lee Garlitz; and the mother of his children, Carolyn Isabel Garlitz.
Jerry was a dedicated worker, retiring from Mack Trucks after many years of service and remaining a proud member of the United Auto Workers. Jerry understood the value of having a daily purpose and worked at ABL, and Miller Environment in his retirement.
While he was a hardworking man, his true joy was found in the world around him. He appreciated the simple things—a warm cup of McDonald’s coffee and sitting by the pool, feeling the warmth of the sun. He was a lifelong history buff and a friend to every dog he met. In his younger years, he was an avid Harley-Davidson rider who loved the freedom of the open road. A devoted snowbird, he found happiness in migrating with the seasons. He found peace in the beauty of flowers and held a playful fascination with the possibility of life beyond the stars.
Above all, Jerry loved his family. He is survived by his three children: Alicia Wiggins (Joseph), Mark Garlitz (Patti), and Rhonda Reed (Tom). He was a proud grandfather to Jonathan Logsdon (Emilee), Jess Reed (Anna-Kate), Emily Wiggins, Roger Pierce, Holly Pierce, and Sierra Hardesty. He also leaves behind his "favorite little people"—the great-grandchildren who brought him much joy and laughter: Lily, Rose, Logan, Jovi, and Deegan.
Jerry will also be deeply missed by his special friend, Hazel Hostetler, with whom he spent many cherished hours sharing meals and "porch sitting."
In a final act of generosity, Jerry’s body was donated to the University of Florida College of Medicine. Upon the return of his ashes, he will be interred in Frostburg, MD with a private family ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Jerry’s honor to Frostburg Area Inter-Faith Food Pantry which provides food to meet basic nutritional needs for individuals and families in need.
