Jerry Alton Ferguson, 85, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2025. Jerry was born in South Zanesville, Ohio, to Claude Ellsworth Ferguson and Amy Van Allen Ferguson on May 8, 1940. He was the eighth of thirteen children.
Upon graduation from Alliance (Ohio) High School in 1958, Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Guardian. He married his sweetheart, Patricia Ann Snyder, on July 23, 1960. After completing his enlistment, he returned to Alliance for six years before re-enlisting in the U.S. Navy Seabees, where he served until his retirement in 1984. Jerry was a Vietnam Veteran. Upon retirement from the Seabees, Jerry continued to serve the Navy as a civil servant, working as a Construction Representative until his retirement in 2005.
In his younger years, Jerry was an active sportsman, playing basketball, softball, bowling, and golf. He coached youth league bowling, church league softball, and coached and referred Little League Baseball. Jerry was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Neptune Beach, Florida, where he served on numerous committees, sang in the choir, and was active in the men’s group. Jerry was an active participant in the Walk to Emmaus community.
A loving and supportive husband and father, Jerry is survived by his wife of 65 years, Patricia; his children, Thomas (Tina) Ferguson, Pamelia Ferguson Necaise, and Jonathan (Dawnita) Ferguson; his granddaughters, Amy Louise (Richie) Drake-Galatas and Hailey Ferguson; and his great-grandson, Jordan Alton Drake.
He is also survived by his brothers, Claude and Terry Ferguson, his sister, Kay Marshall, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Roland, Ted, Bob, Jim, and Mike Ferguson, and sisters Betty Mast, Linda Lou Ferguson, Diane Donohoe, and Jackie Trainer.
Interment will be at the Jacksonville National Cemetery in Jacksonville, Florida.
