Janice “Jan” Lorraine Futrell Young, 87

A beloved mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026, at Community Hospice in Jacksonville, FL.

Jan was born in Ithaca, NY in 1938 but spent most of her childhood in North Carolina. She attended Stetson University and met the love of her life, Bill Young, at the fountain. They married in June 1958 and together raised three children.

Jan completed her Bachelor of Science in Education in 1978 from Western Connecticut State University and her Master’s of Education in 1985 from Loyola University in Baltimore, MD. She worked as an elementary teacher and reading specialist in several East Coast states and in Jacksonville, FL.

In 1992, she moved to Jacksonville, where she lived for most of her life. She worked as a teacher and volunteered as a master gardener at the Beaches Museum. She was also active at Palms Presbyterian Church in the women’s network and served as an usher.

Her hobbies included crafting, gourmet cooking, gardening, and water aerobics.

Jan is survived by her three children and seven grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Palms Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, March 25th at 10:00 AM.
