Jane Arnold Johnson

Jane Elizabeth Arnold Johnson, 80, passed away on Monday, July 21st surrounded by loved ones. She was born on September 30, 1944, in West Palm Beach, the daughter of Charles Wesley Arnold and Mary Helen Long. Later, her family moved to Jacksonville, where she attended Terry Parker High School.

As a young woman, Jane worked for her uncle, Frederick Long, in his OBGYN practice. She later spent 15 years in Duval County Public Schools as a librarian’s assistant at both Lonestar Elementary and Sable Palm Elementary. She loved reading books out loud with the students and opening new worlds through the power of print. After retirement, she volunteered at the St. Vincent de Paul Society and later enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a talent for sewing and playing piano, but her joy was in creating and decorating beautiful spaces with her keen eye and ability to envision spaces in new and innovative ways.

On January 24, 1969, Jane married Ellis Albert Johnson. Together, they had 3 children: Janet Disch, Ellis Johnson, Jr. (Laura), and Candace Laubach (Thomas). She was also a mother to Charles Bell and a stepmother to Robert Johnson and David Johnson. In addition to her beloved children, she was blessed with eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband Ellis, her parents, and her siblings James Frederick Arnold and Helen Joyce Norton. Her Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, July 28th, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Quinn-Shalz Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Haven Hospice.
