James “Jim” Eugene Swan, 79, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 7, 2026, at Haven Hospice Care Center of Orange Park, Florida, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness and sacrifice for his family. Even when his health was failing, Jim always kept his sense of humor and never complained. He will be greatly missed.
He was born in Norwich, Chenango Co., New York on March 10, 1946,and raised in Auburn, Cayuga Co., New York.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Lois Ann (Bartlett) Swan, devoted sons Charles (Amy) Swan and Michael (Joyce) Swan, and grandchildren Madeleine Swan and Tyler Pass who affectionately called him Papa Jim. He is also survived by his brothers Richard (Judy) Swan and Charles (Diane) Swan, sister Mary (Gerry) Cuff, and nieces and nephews.
Jim was predeceased by his father, Harold Eugene Swan and mother, Margaret Theresa Hawelka Swan, his father-in-law Harold Vernon Bartlett and mother-in-law, Ruth Elaine Bedell Bartlett.
Jim proudly served in the United States Army, and after his tour in Vietnam, he was honorably discharged.
After leaving the Army, Jim and Lois settled in Jacksonville, Florida. He began his life-long career in auto sales at 23 years old, retiring at the age of 74. Jim was dedicated and passionate about providing excellent customer service with a deep commitment to helping people. This has left a lasting impression on his colleagues, customers and family.
Jim will always be remembered as a man of great faith, exemplifying the Christian values of love and kindness with everyone he met. Beyond his professional career, Jim had a zest for life that included reading, music, dancing, gardening, woodworking, movies, dining out, cooking, and picnics. He loved animals, especially St. Bernards, and was an avid fan of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Family and friends are invited to join us as we give thanks for Jim’s life and welcome the memories he left behind. The funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 9800-3 Baymeadows Rd., Jacksonville, Florida, 32256.
A Committal Service with military honors will be held at the Jacksonville National Cemetery at a later date.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Mayo Clinic, Isle Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, and Haven Hospice Care Center for their compassionate and attentive care.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to Safe Animal Shelter of Middleburg, Florida to support local animal rescue and welfare.
