James Kennedy Macklin Jr., known to many as Jim, passed away on December 20, 2025, at the age of 71.
Jim was born on March 6, 1954, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was raised in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, a place he always considered home. He attended Marple Newtown High School, where he first discovered a lifelong passion for construction and design. Over the years, Jim brought that passion to life by assisting in remodeling several homes of his own as well as those of friends, always taking great pride in his craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Jim later attended the University of Colorado, where he earned a degree in business and was an active member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. His time at CU fostered lifelong friendships and laid the foundation for a long and dedicated professional career. He went on to spend many years committed to his work, including his time with SEI, Merrill Lynch, Bank of America. His innovative spirit was reflected in his work with VISA, where he earned three U.S. patents.
Above all else, Jim had a deep love for his family, his friends, and the activities that brought him joy. He especially loved playing ice hockey and golfing, passions that provided both excitement and camaraderie throughout his life. The rink and the golf course were places of relaxation and connection for him, where many friendships were formed, and cherished memories were made. He also found great enjoyment in drawing new home plans, puzzles, and reading—pursuits that reflected his thoughtful nature and curiosity. His loyalty to those he cared about, and his steady presence will be deeply missed.
Jim is survived by his dear friend, Beth; his sister, Cheryl; his son, Kyle; (Melissa); and his daughter, Kennedy. He leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and quiet strength that will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
He will be remembered always and missed dearly.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 12, 2026, at Cherry Valley Country Club in Skillman, New Jersey.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association.
