James “Jimmy” Ellis Deen, 89, passed away on January 6, 2024. He was born on November 27, 1934, in Baxley, Georgia. The son of Downie D. and Edith Miles Deen, Jimmy grew up in Appling County, Georgia, attended high school in Jacksonville, and graduated from Baxley High School, serving as class president.
He served as Corporal in the Army during the Korean War. Jimmy graduated from Jacksonville University. He retired from the City of Jacksonville after 32 years as Assistant Comptroller.
Jimmy is predeceased by his wife, Theresa Cromley Knox of 30 years, his parents, six brothers and two sisters. He is survived by two sisters, Frankie Blanton of Fleming Island, FL and Dorothy Collins of Gainesville, FL.
He leaves behind many loving family members and close friends.
Jimmy will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor and friendship to many throughout his life.
Memorial gifts can be made to Jacksonville Humane Society or to the charity of your choice.
Per his request, there will be no services. A Private Burial will take place at Jacksonville National Cemetery at a later date.
