Henry Clay Burnett, a cherished husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully in his home in Ponte Vedra Valley on November 5, 2025, following a long illness. He was born on July 29, 1952, in Lyons, Georgia, and lived a life marked by dedication, service, and love.
Henry's journey began at Leon High School in Tallahassee, Florida, where he graduated before answering the call to serve his country. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, embarking on a remarkable 21-year career in which he achieved the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. His military service was one of his proudest accomplishments and defined much of who he was, a dedicated and committed person who gave his all to everything he set his mind to.
Upon retiring from the Marine Corps, Henry and his beloved wife, Vivian, ventured into a new chapter as they owned and operated a bar and restaurant in Illinois. Their hard work and partnership were testaments to their love, which blossomed over 30 beautiful years together. Eventually, the couple relocated to Florida, where Henry became a respected project manager in the construction industry, showcasing his strong work ethic and charismatic personality.
Henry had a big personality; he was outspoken, honest, and caring, always ready to lend a helping hand. His charisma brought joy to those around him, and his commitment to both family and community left lasting impressions on many lives. He had a passion for adventure, relishing experiences like riding his Harley Davidson, attending Bike Week, cruising the oceans with Vivian, and exploring new places. These hobbies brought him immense joy, and he cherished every moment spent with those he loved.
Henry is survived by his beloved spouse, Vivian Burnett; his children, Henry (Katie) Burnett, Chad (Kelly) Burnett, Niki Burnett, and Mary Burnett; his stepson, Christopher (Moriah) Griffin; and two brothers, Fr. John Burnette and Danny (Lena) Burnett; step brother, Gary York. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of whom were a source of immense pride and joy for him. Henry was predeceased by his father, John Henry Burnett, and his mother, Clara Dell Bowen Burnett-York.
In remembrance of Henry's indomitable spirit, a Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, in Quinn Shalz Funeral Home chapel Located at 3600 3rd Street South, Jacksonville Beach, Florida, followed by a committal service with military honors at Jacksonville National Cemetery at 2:30 PM.
Following the Committal Service a Celebration of Henry’s Life will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Jacksonville Beach Moose Lodge 1558, located at 805 1st Avenue, Jacksonville Beach, Florida.
The legacy of Henry Clay Burnett will continue to live on through the hearts and lives he touched. As we say goodbye to a remarkable man, we hold dear the memories etched in our minds and the lessons learned from his life filled with love, commitment and strength.

Jacksonville National Cemetery
Family and friends are invited to attend the Committal Service with Military Honors for Henry at Jacksonville National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. There will not be a formal procession from the funeral home; however, all who wish to attend are most welcome. Guests are encouraged to arrive 10–15 minutes early and pull into Lane #2. At approximately 2:30 p.m., cemetery staff will lead all vehicles to the committal shelter for the service.
