Helen B. Barry, a beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025, in Ponte Vedra, Florida, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Washington D.C. on November 4, 1932, she graced this world for nearly a century, leaving behind an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.
Helen's early years were filled with promise as she graduated from Montgomery Blair High School in 1950, where she shone as a member of the Majorette team. With a spirit full of joy, she embraced life’s adventures passionately. Known for her loving, caring, and patient demeanor, Helen was a beacon of generosity, always thinking of others before herself. People often remarked on her delightful sense of humor and sweet disposition, which drew everyone to her.
Her legacy is rooted in the profound support she provided to her family in all aspects of life—be it at home, on the sports field, at church, or in educational endeavors. Her sons, Thomas, Scott, David, and Wayne along with her daughter Brenda, recall with deep affection the joy she brought to their lives. Helen was particularly passionate about baseball; she rarely missed a game, finding immense joy in watching her sons play the sport they loved. Her unwavering presence made those moments all the more special.
As a devoted spouse to Robert Barry, she found happiness in building a life of shared love and warmth, while her relationships with her twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren were among her proudest accomplishments. Helen took great joy in witnessing each of them grow into successful individuals, celebrating their unique journeys and supporting them wholeheartedly.
Even during her toughest times, as she battled various ailments, including Dementia over the last five years of her life, Helen showed remarkable strength and determination. She approached each challenge with an unyielding spirit, continuing to share her love and wisdom with those around her.
Helen cherished simple pleasures, finding joy in ice skating, puzzles, coloring, and the tranquility of the beach. Her zest for life and the beauty she found in daily moments is a testament to her character. Helen was fiercely proud of her family’s legacy, particularly the three generations who followed in the footsteps of I.B.E.W. Local 26 Electricians, a bond that symbolized values of hard work and dedication.
Survivor's include her beloved children; Scott F. (Lorrie) Barry, Brenda L. (Wade) Hale, David G. (Susan) Barry, and Wayne (Katherine) Barry; Brother Donald (Maria) Blanche; Twelve Grandchildren, and Six Great Grandchildren.
She now joins her beloved husband Robert Barry, her son Thomas E. Barry, her sister Elizabeth Poore, her brother David Blanche, and her parents Thomas and Anne Blanche in peace.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at Crossroad Church, located at 10005 Gate Parkway N., Jacksonville, FL 32246.
Helen B. Barry will forever be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose kindness and laughter enriched the lives of all who had the privilege to know her. Her spirit lives on in the cherished memories of her family, who carry forward her legacy of love.
