Harvey Mayes

Harvey Luke Mayes III, 79, of Jacksonville Beach, departed life on October 29, 2025, having lived a happy and fulfilled life. He was born on March 19, 1946 in Jacksonville, Florida. He grew up in Marietta, Georgia and returned to live in Jacksonville Beach in 1997. 

An avid fan of the Auburn Tigers, he never missed an opportunity to show support for his alma mater. 

During his professional career, he served as Vice President of Trust Company Bank, an agent for Federal Deposit Insurance Company, and as an independent auditor of credit unions throughout Florida and Georgia. His favorite position however was his time as a Senior Accountant for the City of Jacksonville, Florida. A resident of Jacksonville Beach for more than 28 years, the beach was always his favorite place to be. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Lucas Mayes Jr. and Pauline Sayles Mayes; his mother-in-law, Margaret Youngblood, his brother in law, Art Stewart; and his nephew, Sean Stewart. He is survived by his wife, Patricia S. Mayes; his sister, Ann Mayes Stoskopf; his sister in law, Chris Stewart; his son, H. Luke Mayes IV and wife Laura S Mayes; two grandchildren, Eli Lucas Mayes and Maxwell Jagger Mayes; his nieces and nephews, Bobby Stoskopf and wife Alianor; Kari Nix and husband Steve, and Scott Stewart and wife Connie; and many beloved great nieces and nephews. 

A service to honor and celebrate Harvey’s life will be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at 10:00am at Quinn Shalz Funeral Home located at 3600 3rd Street S, Jacksonville Beach, Florida 32250. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Harvey’s name to the Jacksonville Humane Society.
