Guy Yolton

December 5, 1921 — November 23, 2013

YOLTO GUY LEROY YOLTON (Age 91) Of Fleet Landing, Atlantic Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 23, 2013. He was born on December 5, 1921, in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, to the late George Guy Yolton and Nellie Totten Yolton. Guy grew up in Latrobe and was an avid gymnast, being a cheerleader for Latrobe High school and later for the University of Pittsburg. College was interrupted by World War II, and Guy served four years in the Army Air Corps. In 1944, he married his high school sweetheart, Lois Miller, and they were among the first to live in Levittown, New York. During this time he completed college and graduated from New York University. Guy began his long and successful career in advertising at McGraw Hill publishing company in New York City. He later worked in Washington, DC at Nation's Business Magazine before starting his own mail advertising agency in 1963, Guy L. Yolton Advertising, Inc. In his 22 years of business, he helped many well-known clients and served as national president of the Direct Marketing Association of America. Following his retirement, Guy and Lois resided at their mountain chalet near Charles Town, WV, which was lovingly named "Sky Reach" for the wonderful view. Later, they moved to Key Colony Beach in the Florida Keys. After Lois passed, Guy married Elizabeth "Betty" Benson in 1993 and they enjoyed nearly 20 years together. In 2003 Guy and Betty moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, and in 2012 to Fleet Landing. Guy was always active in the community and was a real "people person." From president of the PTA at Wakefield Chapel Elementary School, where he started the youth tumbling program, to playing Rumplestiltskin in community plays, to being a reporter and editor of local newspapers, Guy loved the company of others. He was an accomplished master of ceremonies. Guy especially loved to play the piano, and he knew over 200 songs. Guy led a full life as an editor, writer, gymnast, pianist, photographer, public speaker, golfer, traveler, and a loving father and husband. Guy is survived by his wife, Betty Benson Yolton and stepsons, Jeff and wife, Kathy of Canandaigua, NY and Craig and wife Karen of Chagrin Falls, OH. He is also survived by his sons, David and wife, Karen of Newport, VA, Thomas and wife, Susie of Versailles, KY and Guy Jr. (Lee) and wife, Mary of Richmond, VA; and grandson Benjamin, also of Richmond. A private memorial gathering was held at the Ponte Vedra Lodge and Club on Sunday, November 24, 2013. Please visit our online Tribute at: www.quinn-shalz.com.
