Georgia Heitkemper

May 1, 1924 — September 7, 2025

Georgia May Heitkemper passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 7, 2025, in Jacksonville, Florida. She was born on May 1, 1924, in Louisville, Kentucky, to George and Katherine (Cress) Heitkemper. Georgia attended St. Elizabeth of Hungary Elementary School and Louisville Girls High School before earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce from the University of Louisville.

In 1942, she began her career with L&N Railroad in Louisville, where she worked faithfully until the company's merger with CSX in 1980 transferred her to Jacksonville. She retired there in 1985. During her time with L&N, Georgia obtained her private pilot's license, which nurtured her love of travel. She visited many destinations across the United States and abroad, including Mexico, Europe, China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and numerous islands along the way.

Following her retirement, Georgia made her home in Jacksonville, where she became an active member of both the Women's Club and the Garden Club of Jacksonville Beach. Through her involvement with the Garden Club, she earned national recognition as a Flower Show Judge, a role she continued until the age of 80. In her later years, she devoted herself to the study of the history and teachings of the Catholic Church.

Georgia will be lovingly remembered by her many friends, her nephew, Glen Reed, and her niece, Andrea Reed Frankenberger. To them she leaves these parting words: "Bless you all! And thanks to a loving God who gave me so many years to enjoy His wondrous world."

A visitation will be held on Friday, September 12, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in Quinn Shalz Funeral Home Chapel, 3600 3rd Street South, Jacksonville Beach, Florida. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:00 p.m. in St. Paul's Catholic Church, 523 Pablo Road, Jacksonville Beach, Florida.
