Gary Winter

Gary Winter, 49, passed away unexpectedly on January 21, 2021. Born February 23, 1971, Gary grew up in Parsippany, New Jersey, and moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 1987. He lived in Tennessee and Minnesota for several years, before settling into his forever home of Atlantic Beach, Florida in 2001.

Gary relished his career at Sawgrass Country Club as the Director of Maintenance for the past 9 years and 6 years prior at Selva Marina. His personality and infectious laughter were well-known throughout the community. Gary knew no strangers, only new friends. Gary’s love for adventure brought him around the world sailing in the Engine Department of the U.S. Merchant Marines. He always had a story to tell or a prank to play, no matter what the situation warranted, and everyone was guaranteed a good laugh. Gary was a most generous man, always willing to help whenever needed. He enjoyed spending quality time with family and friends making memories. Gary met Agnes, the love of his life, working at the TPC Sawgrass in 2002. Together, they began their life as husband and wife in Atlantic Beach and welcomed a son, Andrew in 2009. Gary cherished Andrew and was so proud of their time spent with the Bolles School family.

Gary is survived by his wife Agnes of 17 years, 11-year-old son Andrew; sister Cindy Winter and niece Alexis of Aledo, Texas; and in-laws Herb and Lucy Anderson of Venice, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clare and Jack Winter. Gary was a loving father, husband, brother, uncle, son-in-law and friend to everyone.

A Celebration of Life for Gary Winter will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Sawgrass Country Club. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to honor Gary Winter can make a donation to Andrew Winter’s 529 College Savings Plan.
