Eunice W. Smith, affectionately known as "Nunu," passed away surrounded by her family on April 16, 2025, in Neptune Beach, Florida. Born on September 3, 1926, in Troutdale, Virginia, Eunice lived a life marked by love, dedication, and kindness toward all those fortunate enough to know her.
In 1958, Eunice and Emmons moved their family from Kimball, West Virginia to Jacksonville Beach, Florida. Eunice dedicated much of her professional life to the pharmacy field, serving as a Pharmacy Tech at Stewart Pharmacy, Preston Pharmacy, and finally retiring from Mauch Pharmacy in her early 70s. Her commitment to her work was paralleled by her active participation in her community, where she served on the Sevilla Condominiums Board and volunteered on the Sevilla Clubhouse Party Committee for several years.
Her nurturing spirit resonated deeply within her family. Her son, Ron Smith, cherishes countless memories of his mother’s unwavering support and kindness: "She was always there for me for whatever it was I might have needed throughout my life." For her daughter-in-law Debe, Eunice embodied a motherly love, often saying, "you are the daughter I never had." Eunice's grandchildren hold dear the warmth of her unconditional love, reflecting on how she made every moment spent together feel special.
Eunice was not only beloved by her family but also exhibited an inspiring personality. She was gracious, kind, and never spoke ill of anyone, but not without a great sense of humor and quick wit that will be remembered with laughter and smiles by those who knew and loved her. Nunu adored her family yet was always careful not to intrude or be a bother. Her grace was evident in her stylish approach to both fashion and home décor, and she lived by her favorite saying, “Be Kind to Each Other,” a principle she practiced daily. Despite facing life's challenges, she rarely complained, exhibiting strength and resilience until her last breath.
Eunice's educational journey included earning her certification as a Retail Seller and receiving her Cosmetology License, proving her dedication to personal and professional growth. Her hobbies were diverse; she was an avid reader and enjoyed card games, especially Mahjong.
She leaves behind a family that includes her loving son, Ron (Debe) Smith; her cherished granddaughters; Laurie (Tate) Beavers and Merry (Greg) English; her devoted grandsons Jeff (Dana) Smith and David Smith; along with her great-grandchildren; Emma (Uday Pandit) Pandit English, John Beavers, Noah Smith, Bradley Beavers, Rowan Smith, Hobie Smith, Ellie Smith; and longtime granddaughter-in-law Heidi Smith.
Eunice is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Emmons Smith; her son, Michael Smith; her father, Joseph Andrew Wright; her mother, Virginia Greear Wright; and her siblings: Bill Wright, Joe Wright, Duke Wright, and Althea Blankenship.
