Eugene Johnson Manning, Jr.

Eugene “Jack” Johnson Manning, Jr, 92 of Jacksonville, FL passed away peacefully on June 11, 2023 with his loving family by his side.  He was born in Clear Creek, WV and grew up in Mullins and Beckley, WV.  He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1949.  He received an Associate’s Degree from Beckley College.  He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1952 – 1954.  He was employed by C&P Telephone Co and retired after 35 years of service with perfect attendance.  He enjoyed fishing and golfing.  His passion was traveling with his wife Hazel.

He is survived by his daughter Lisa Gullian (Glen), brother, Ronald Manning and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Meadows Manning with whom he was married for 62 years; parents, Eugene Johnson Manning and Margaret Ann Prentice Manning; and brother, Robert Prentice Manning.

Visitation will be from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm Saturday June 24, 2023 in Quinn-Shalz Family Funeral Home.  Friends and family will have a casual gathering in the chapel to share memories at 11:30 am. There will also be a service at the Jacksonville National Cemetery Monday, June 26, 2023 at 11:00 am, Lane 2.
