Elizabeth Ann Johnson, born April 20,1930 in New Brunswick, New Jersey to Frank and Agnes Johnson, becoming a little sister to Averell and Robert Johnson. She lived until March 5, 2026 while residing in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.

Elizabeth A. Johnson, an endearing "Betty" to friends and family and "Aunt Betty" to a special few. She preferred to be addressed as Elizabeth by people she did not know or had just met.

Betty was an intrepid traveler which was spurred on by her civilian connection with the Air Force. After teaching in the San Francisco Bay area, she taught in elementary schools on military bases in Germany, Japan and Puerto Rico.

She was generous with travels and cruises in often taking along family and friends. This made for unforgettable memories that still warm hearts. One of her favorite trips was on the Orient Express when it was still the full train journey from Paris to Istanbul! She was always fascinated b y the people, cultures, landscapes and history she encountered and conveyed that enthusiasm telling wonderful stories often accompanied with her wonderful laughter.

Betty's intellectual pursuits were legendary and continued to be forged at and beyond Bethany College and Temple University. After teaching, she attained a Masters Degree from Columbia University and changed to a career in social work...right where she wanted to be...in her beloved New York City. She was a voracious reader and devoured newspapers, news magazines and books, always open on her coffee table. In later years, macular degeneration robbed her of her eyesight. For as long as she could, Betty still doggedly read everything word by word with a magnifying glass.

Betty was interested in all the arts and was a creative artist herself. Her paintings adorned the walls and other art objects decorated her NYC apartment. She loved every and all animals and, once upon a time, shared that tiny NYC apartment with five cats.

Betty has been described as intellectual, strong, determined, amazing, interesting, witty, a devoted friend, funny and "feisty with a Golden Heart'. She is a legend and will remain a legend for many reasons. Betty enriched so many lives with her love, friendship and generosity. Her presence, love, conversations and laughter will be so missed!

For my "Aunt Betty" with love, appreciation and gratitude. I miss you, Reyne Ziola Canning
